Education
Masters in Fashion Design, Sheffield Hallam University (2011-15)
During this course I have developed skills including creative pattern cutting and professional construction techniques, which led to my exploration of new techniques for my graduate collection. I have used CAD (including Adobe programs, SketchUp, and Assyst Bulmer) through my design work to ensure a professional standard of technical work, and also to produce layouts and Illustrations. I have used a wide range of materials, and source on-trend fabrics using trend-forecasting websites such as WGSN for research.
Achievements
Sheffield Institute of Arts Fashion Show, Millenium Gallery (2015)
Final graduation collection selected by external panel for SHU fashion show.
Tour de France: Grande Depart Exhibition (2014)
Design work exhibited in exhibition relating to design futures for cycling.
Sheffield Institue of Arts: Travel and Project Funding (2014)
Achieved award for successful proposal to travel to The Netherlands to gain experience working in a foreign country.
Experience | Freelance Work
British Potato Council (Creative Designer)
Worked to the design brief of creating a 'Chip Dress', presenting initial design ideas, and developing these after client feedback, sourcing high quality materials and developing a technique to work with the unusual food material for a dress, which involved using a laser cutter to cut acrylic sheets. A photoshoot was then organised and the dress was featured in various media including The Star, Reveal and Female First.
Tour de France: Grande Depart (Seamstress)
Working as a Technician at the base of the Tour de France: Grande Depart in Leeds, I worked in a team to strict deadlines making alterations to stewards uniforms. Communication and punctuality were essential to ensure the event ran smoothly.
Experience | Internships
Marga Weimans, Rotterdam
While interning for Marga Weimans I worked in a small team with another intern, the designer and a museum curator to design, develop and build installations for the Marga Weimans: Fashion House exhibition in Groningen Museum. This involved collaborating with Dutch artists and architecture companies to create the installations, and I was introduced to design methods which were new to me, such as modelling with clay and foam, and using SketchUp to make virtual 3D models. I also used textile and architectural materials such as metal and polyester.
Bas Kosters Studio, Amsterdam
During my internship at Bas Kosters Studio I worked mainly in the production team preparing the AW14 collection for LFW. This included producing toiles and final garments for the show and the webshop, hand sewing and embroidery to high standards and tracing and filing patterns. I also then assisted as a dresser at the LFW show.
Atea Oceanie, London
At Atea Oceanie, I worked with the design team on a variety of tasks, including producing samples, updating garment specifications and technical flats using Illustrator, tracking and maintaining sketch/flat files for each season, filing and organising the sample library and supplier correspondence and assisting with putting together looks for the lookbook.
Reem Juan, London
At Reem Juan, I worked in the atelier in London to develop samples for the SS14 collection, including sourcing fabrics, pattern cutting, producing toiles and altering fit, hand embroidery and beading, and working on print design using CAD. I also travelled to Paris with the designer and the studio manager to assist in the Paris Fashion Week showroom, setting up the showroom, dressing models and presenting the collection to clients and buyers.
